Embracing January: A Journey of Self-Awareness and Renewal

Embracing January: A Journey of Self-Awareness and Renewal

Reflecting on the Festive Season

Here I sit on my couch, thinking of the last two months and the whirl of excitement, the frenzy to get everything done, and the swinging door of friends and family making their visits. I know the Winter Holidays are crazy and I try to pack too much into a small amount of time but, it is simply because I love the Winter Holidays so much. It is an excuse to be happier, to be more generous, to stop and appreciate, and then it is over. It has to end, nothing can go on forever, even the best things in life. And this is where we pick up again, me, sitting on my couch, remembering and wondering why I am so low energy.

The Transition to January

Yes, I exerted a lot of energy to pull off the best party of the year however, my low energy goes beyond that. I feel a letdown like the ending of a Broadway production that had a 5-year run or a series finale when all the actors have to say goodbye to everything familiar. And the next stop on our journey is January. The month of January gets a bad wrap. It is called the 62-day month because it feels extra long. We are so hyped up in November and December and then life goes back to normal.

The Power of Self-Awareness

Many people make resolutions but, the reality is, a resolution is something we could be doing all year, all the time. Instead of a resolution this year, I am going to practice self-awareness. What do I need in my life to support my mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being? What do I need in my life to raise that energy? September is National Self-Care Month but, I argue that January would be a much better time for that awareness.

Personal Wellness Practices for the New Year

We are already thinking about improvements in general so why not take it a step further and immerse ourselves fully into a state of awareness about ourselves? We have what feels like 62 days in the month, let’s make good use of that time. With that decision, I came up with an extensive list of ideas to support a state of balance, harmony, and well-being with me. This is my list based on me being self-aware so you should make your own list however, feel free to use my ideas or be inspired by whatever resonates with you and your self-awareness.
